Democrat for County Supervisor

From the Marines to the State Legislature to teaching at UCSD, Nathan Fletcher has a proven record getting things done and making a difference in people’s lives.

In the Marine Corps, Nathan served as a Counterintelligence Specialist and did two combat tours in Iraq, the Near East and the Horn of Africa.

As an Assemblyman, Nathan was known as one of California’s most effective legislators, passing more than 30 laws to expand healthcare coverage, protect homeowners during the foreclosure crisis, strengthen public safety and increase support services for veterans and the homeless.  Nathan authored Chelsea’s Law, landmark public safety legislation that strengthened penalties for violent crimes against children.

A Professor of Practice in Political Science at UCSD, Nathan has been teaching courses on public service, political science, California government and American history at the University of California San Diego since 2013.  Fletcher’s class on the Voting Rights Act of 1965, was featured recently in the Union-Tribune.

As a Veteran’s Advocate, Nathan founded the Three Wise Men Foundation to help eliminate the stigma surrounding Post-Traumatic Stress and launched the ‘Honorably Discharged, Dishonorably Deported’ campaign to shine a light on the injustice of deported veteran.

A Proud Father, Nathan understands the challenges every parent faces and knows the basics all our families rely on: safe neighborhoods, good schools, clean parks.

Nathan knows leadership isn’t just talk.  It’s delivering real results for working people.  On the Board of Supervisors, Nathan Fletcher will take on the status quo and put County Government to work for us:

·      Real Action On Homelessness. San Diego’s homeless crisis is tragic and getting worse every day.  Nathan will fight for a comprehensive plan to get the homeless off the street and into the treatment and housing they need.  And Nathan will demand audits of current homeless programs so taxpayers know how their money is being spent and what’s really working.

·      Traffic Relief And Public Transit.  San Diego families deserve better roads and a world class public transit system that helps get motorists off the roads and relieves congestion.  Nathan will push to bring all of San Diego together behind sustainable solutions to reduce traffic, repair aging infrastructure and invest in public transit San Diegans can actually use to get to and from work.

·      Fighting For Working Families.  While Washington threatens unconscionable cuts, Nathan will fight to defend vital protections for the sick, vulnerable and underserved.  And Nathan will work to make two years of community college tuition-free for working people because every child who studies hard should be able to go to college regardless of how much money their parents make.

·      Protecting Our Environment.  Now more than ever, San Diego must lead on climate change by adopting a Climate Action Plan that reduces carbon emissions by cracking down on pollution in underserved communities and investing in renewable energy.  Nathan will fight to keep San Diego beautiful, healthy and safe with strong environmental protections to ensure clean air, clean water and clean beaches for all.

Active in the community, Nathan serves on the board of the Headstrong Project, which provides cost-free, stigma-free mental health care to veterans, is a Director of the Partnership for the Advancement of New Americans, a San Diego-based refugee advocacy organization, and is a member of the Veterans’ Caucus of the California Democratic Party.

Nathan is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys surfing, mountain climbing and competing in Ironman triathlons.  He lives in the City Heights community of San Diego with his wife, Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher, and their four children.
