Hummus and fundraising
Posted November 12th, 2008 by NathanFrom Federal Strategy Quote of the Day: this is a funny and creative plea for contributions -- your prize for giving -- a secret recipe for hummus. Makes me almost want to give money to Nader... almost.
Quote of the Day
"I've had a lot of hummus. Hummus is nutritious. And delicious. It makes you stronger and healthier. So, Bloomberg's report on the Lebanese claim to hummus got me to thinking about an idea that would help us raise funds to push our substantive agenda onto the front burner of American politics. If you donate to Nader/Gonzales by midnight tonight an amount that has the numer three in it (three being the number of lemons in my mom's hummus recipe), we'll e-mail to you Rose Nader's hummus recipe tomorrow."
Front fell off the boat... Hilarious!
Posted October 13th, 2008 by NathanThis is one of the funniest interviews with a politician I have ever seen -- I watched it three times and really laughed hard on each one...
State Assembly Kids Site... How a bill becomes a law
Posted August 30th, 2008 by NathanSince we are having random website referral today, here is one more interesting site. This site is a part of the official State Assembly site, and allows kids to introduce a mock bill (they create their own idea), have it sent to committees, the senate, and to the Governor to sign or veto. It is an interactive way to learn the legislative process.

Teddy Roosevelt on Adoption
Posted August 27th, 2008 by NathanTheodore Roosevelt is one of my favorite historical figures. That was only reinforced when I was doing some reading and came across his early efforts in the area of adoption. TR called the first White House Conference on adoption in 1909--it was called the "Care of Dependent Children". The conference called for the end of the routine institutionalization of neglected and dependent children in favor of family-placement. It also called for the creation of the Federal Children's Bureau which was created three years later in 1912.
Nathan Competes at the Ironman Triathalon
Posted August 24th, 2008 by MindyThis morning I watched Nathan start the Ironman Canada race here in Penticton, BC. It was an amazing sight as 2500 people head into the water at the same time to start the 2.4 mile swim. I got a great photo of the start - Nathan is the one in the wetsuit and the blue swim cap – good luck finding him. The swim is followed by a 112 mile bike ride and a full 26.2 mile marathon. For those of you wondering, no Nathan is not crazy. He loves to challenge himself physically and this is just his latest endeavor.
