REPUBLICAN WHIP
SACRAMENTO - Assemblymember Nathan Fletcher, R-San Diego, today announced that he has been appointed by Assembly Republican Leader Mike Villines to serve as a Republican Whip for the 2008-10 legislative session.
"I am honored to have been entrusted by Republican Leader Villines and my Assembly Republican colleagues to serve as a member of the leadership team, and look forward to having the opportunity to make a difference for San Diego's working families," said Fletcher. "I stand ready to roll up my sleeves and work to encourage job creation in our state, improvement in our schools, and better government accountability for all Californians."
Republican Whips help keep track of legislation and ensure that Republican members are present and voting when important measures are debated on the Assembly floor.
"Nathan Fletcher comes to Sacramento having accomplished so much so early in his career, serving as a dedicated public servant, businessman, Republican party leader and decorated veteran," said Assembly Republican Leader Mike Villines, of Fresno. "I'm proud to have Nathan on our team, and look forward to putting his energy and enthusiasm to work for Assembly Republicans as we work together to put Californians first again."
Recently elected to the California State Assembly, Assemblyman Fletcher represents the 75th Assembly District, which includes the City of Poway, portions of Escondido, City of San Diego communities of La Jolla, University City, Mira Mesa, Scripps Ranch, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Peñasquitos, and Carmel Valley, and the communities of Fairbanks Ranch, and Rancho Santa Fe.

SDUT: Nathan in the Hot Seat
Posted November 23rd, 2008 by DavidToday, the Union Tribune did a Sunday feature on Nathan.
Hot seat: Nathan Fletcher
November 23, 2008
Nathan Fletcher, assemblyman-elect for the 75th district, talks about the challenges he will face in Sacramento:
You ran on a platform emphasizing a strong opposition to higher taxes. Now that the budget debacle has grown even worse, are you still as firm on this issue?
Raising taxes in a down economy will do more harm than good and compound our current problem. We must do the following to restore our economy:
Create jobs. With the third-highest unemployment rate in the nation and declining revenues, the worst thing we can do to our economy is increase the burden on Californians. It would slow consumer spending and send more California jobs to surrounding states. We must take action to stimulate economic growth, encourage entrepreneurship and promote job creation in California.
Budget reform. While the state's tax revenues have risen by 40 percent over the last four years, there has been a 44 percent increase in state spending. The state needs structural budget reform to control spending growth during the boom years and save that excess to provide funds in economic down cycles.

With three-term Republican Assemblyman George Plescia stepping down because of term limits, former Marine staff sergeant, businessman and fellow Republican Nathan Fletcher hopes to inherit the 75th District seat.
By most conventional measures ---- the district's Republican majority, Fletcher's successful fundraising and his long, energetic campaign ---- it appears the baton will pass to the 31-year-old, first-time candidate.
