Former Primary Opponent Omar Passons Endorses Nathan Fletcher for Supervisor
SAN DIEGO – Today Omar Passons, a former opponent in the primary election in San Diego’s 4th Supervisorial District , endorsed Nathan Fletcher for County Supervisor.
Omar Passons said: "Nathan Fletcher's candidacy is the best opportunity to meaningfully advance support for our region's children and seniors and to drive greater County participation in our homeless and housing crisis," said Omar Passons. "As a San Diegan committed to fostering a truly inclusive regional economy, I endorse Nathan because he is a leader who has committed to prioritizing these issues and to making our community work for all San Diegans."
Attorney and Youth Advocate Omar Passons joins Ken Malbrough, another of Fletcher’s former opponents from the primary, in backing Fletcher. Passons, a longtime community volunteer, local attorney and youth advocate, distinguished himself throughout the primary with a strong grassroots campaign, substantive policy proposals and a relentless focus on improving the lives of children and seniors.
Nathan Fletcher stated, “While Omar and I were opponents in the primary, we are both united by the same drive to build a County Government that serves our neighborhoods, focuses on ensuring every child has a path to success and helps lift up struggling working families. I admire Omar’s commitment to our communities and to building a brighter future for our most vulnerable residents - seniors, children, those in need of healthcare. I look forward to working with him to bring change to County Government to start addressing our neighborhoods urgent needs and make sure Trump’s hateful agenda never succeeds here in San Diego.”
Fletcher is the Democratic nominee for County Supervisor in San Diego’s 4th District and was the first place finisher in June’s primary election. In addition to consolidating support from his previous primary opponents, Fletcher has in recent weeks won the backing of Councilmember David Alvarez and Assemblywoman Shirley Weber. Fletcher was previously endorsed by Governor Jerry Brown, Vice-President Joe Biden and San Diego County Firefighters.
Nathan Fletcher served as State Assemblyman, where he authored Chelsea’s Law, passed scholarships for middle-class kids and was rated one of California’s most effective legislators. A decorated veteran of the Marine Corps, Fletcher is a Veterans advocate who has worked to eliminate the stigma surrounding Post-Traumatic Stress and has fought to prevent immigrants who served in the military from being deported. A professor at UCSD, Fletcher lives in the City Heights neighborhood of San Diego with his wife, Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher, and their four children.
