Vaccine: Vaccines offer our path out of the COVID-19 pandemic. Last week, I outlined our county plan to invest 100 million dollars to aggressively build the system needed to deliver vaccines quickly. This week, I provided an update on our effort. We now have two vaccine superstations and another eight PODS (point of distribution). If you are a healthcare worker or 75 and older, you can make an appointment HERE and check out our real time vaccine dashboard HERE.
A new day: On Tuesday, it felt like an incredible weight had been lifted. Joe Biden is our President, and Kamala Harris is our Vice President. Trump is gone. I am enjoying letting that sink in. But “Trumpism” and the divisions he dug deeper remain. Two recent pieces in recent days in the Atlantic really frame the challenges and opportunities ahead well. This one from the great Ron Brownstein gives a glimmer of optimism and this one paints a little more pessimistic (maybe realistic) scenario.
Preview: For years, I have advocated that we must stop the unjust actions of deporting honorably discharged members of the American armed forces. With a new President, it is time to make a new fight for justice. Please watch “Ready for War” a Showtime documentary outlining the issue and our actions. You can also read this piece from our early efforts. And stand by for a renewed push!
Clean Air: As promised, President Biden got right to work. After his inauguration, he signed 15 executive orders, one revised Trump Administration regulations on fuel economy standards. This is a significant victory for California. We battled the Trump administration over mileage and clean air standards for four years. BTW--high mileage standards means substantial savings for consumers on gasoline usage!
Photo of the Week: Senator Bernie Sanders had a busy week:) In addition to attending the inauguration, he “dropped in to” about a million different places. This, of course, included Bernie taking the trolley to the inaugural “State of MTS Address”! Photo credit: the awesome MTS digital team!
