Vaccine: This week, I updated the public on our vaccination efforts. Good news--we have blown past our initial January goal of administering 250,000 doses in San Diego and we are adding more County vaccination sites--now 12--and more appointments (see map here). The bad news--we are very limited by the supply of vaccines. Everyone wants the vaccine and wants it now, but we can only administer what we have. Hang in there--hopefully more coming soon.
January 28, 1986: I vividly remember sitting in Miss Glover’s 3rd grade class watching the space shuttle launch on one of those TVs they wheeled around on a cart. It was horrible. That night President Reagan eloquently told the nation the brave astronauts, “slipped the surly bonds of earth to touch the face of God", but in a part of the speech that got less attention he spoke directly to those of us in school (see below). I remember his words and the comfort they brought.
Podcast I recommend: Holy smokes! I knew that New York state politics had some problems, but I never knew just how bad it was. The podcast “American Scandal” hosted by Lindsey Graham (no, not that Lindsey Graham) tells the stories of the scandals that have shaped America, including those from business and politics to sports and society. The most recent episode I listened to titled “Encore: New York State of Crime- An Affair to Remember” takes us through the scandal involving former Governor of New York Eliot Spitzer, former New York Senator Joseph L. Bruno, and the Speaker of the Assembly. All three out of office--two in jail!
Quote worth considering: "Some things have to be believed to be seen." -Ralph Hodgson
It feels good to laugh: While Supervisor Jim Desmond and I have had some sharp disagreements, it feels good to know that we can still share a laugh!
