They gave me a gavel: I am incredibly honored to become Chair of the Board of Supervisors. For the first time in decades, the Board is majority progressive, and we are ready to govern.
Our Framework for the Future is our initial agenda to be considered next week to:
Vaccines: The County is stepping up in a big way to get healthcare workers vaccinated. The County partnered with Mayor Todd Gloria, UCSD Health, and the Padres to open their first COVID-19 Vaccination Super Station at Petco Park. This Super Station is a part of the new “POD"(point of dispensing) program started by the County and is capable of doing 5,000 vaccines for healthcare workers a day. If you are a healthcare worker and would like further information on how to sign up, visit the site here.
Just awful: As a Marine, I prepared to defend an embassy that might be overrun. It was a real concern when I served in Yemen, Iraq, the Horn of Africa. I never imagined we would watch this happen to the U.S. Capitol. Donald Trump is directly responsible for creating this environment and the Capitol Police and others are responsible for, at best, incompetence. This week, at a press conference, I briefly spoke on the situation we saw unfold in our nation’s Capitol.
Podcast I recommend: “You’re wrong about” is a great podcast that I recommend. Sarah Marshall and Michael Hobbs bring you fascinating truths about long held beliefs--the Stanford Prison Experiment, Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment, Electoral College and so much more! I promise you will learn things you never knew or perhaps knew wrong.
