Do the right thing: The San Diego Convention Center was able to serve as a transition point for almost 3,000 unaccompanied immigrant children to connect them with their family sponsors. Every child deserves love, compassion and support. This week we recognized the outstanding public servants who worked in collaboration to make this a possibility. I am proud of San Diego.
Deeper dive: It is tragic that the human contribution to climate change has killed nearly one billion sea creatures. Climate change is real and this should not be a partisan issue but here we are continuously debating what is well established in the science community. Deforestation and global warming are turning the Amazon from a carbon sink to a carbon producer. We will keep working to do better.
Social dilemma: It is easy to be drawn into the toxicity of social media but the fact is that platforms like Twitter & Facebook are designed to consume larger portions of our time and energy becoming addicted. According to Caitlyn Flanagan, Twitter is exploiting human psychology and ruining our ability to read and degrading our public discourse. It's healthy to take breaks and set some limits on social media:)
Speaking of toxic social media: Back by popular demand is the 4th installment of MEAN MESSAGES. You can learn about things that I have a hard time doing, caps lock control, a penguin reference & a whole lot more! If you missed the first ones, you can find them here, here, and here.
Good tunes: This week’s music suggestion is Cody Jinks! Whiskey Myers (my current favorite) is more southern Rock, but Jinks is just old school outlaw country. Here are a few good ones: Mama's Song (makes me think about my Mom), Must Be the Whiskey (makes me think about when I started dating my wife), No Words (just life and love) and Hippies and Cowboys (just fun). Enjoy!
