Get a damn vaccine: This New York Times piece from San Diego’s own Dr. Eric Topol outlines why FDA needs to grant full approval. Almost 80% of San Diegans have gotten their first dose (national average is 54%), but we need everyone to be fully vaccinated. The Delta variant is spreading (almost entirely among those unvaccinated). If you are the type who gets medical advice about vaccines from b-list celebrities and friends on facebook, the good news is we have lots of ventilators in storage for when you need one.
About time: Gwen Goldman's dream of being a bat girl was rejected by the Yankee’s because they couldn’t imagine girls in baseball. Well, 60 years later, her dream came true. A little grander dream was Wally Funk who passed all the astronaut training in the 1960s but was rejected...again because she was a woman. She will be blasting into space at the age of 82!
Budget approved: This week, our county approved our 7.2 billion dollar budget. I am very proud of the smart investments we are making and the hard work my colleagues and county staff put in to arrive at a budget I am proud of. Check out a few of our priorities included HERE.
No BS: After reading this piece from VICE News, I am more optimistic about the prospects for a couple of our kids. They did a scientific study to measure bullshitting (you read that right). And it turns out to be a sign of intelligence. Just read the article, I am not bullshitting.
This made me laugh: A trust fall exercise that went horribly wrong! My wife is dyslexic so I could see her falling the wrong way:)
