Just the facts: We have heard for years about the “California Exodus.” It is usually based on an anecdote or feelings, but the facts don’t support it. The University of California has compiled an impressive group of research and the California Dream is alive and well. See more studies here and here.
Heartbreaking: I read this story early on Tuesday morning and have not shaken the sadness from this terrible tragedy. A beautiful 12 year old boy accidentally shot himself in the chest with a gun brought to his house by a friend. He died in his Mother's arms. Please talk to your kids about the danger of guns.
Never give up: The Padres game Thursday was one for the ages! Down 8-0, the Nationals had a 98% win probability. Then Daniel Camerena (a San Diego kid) up from the minors, that same day, became the first pitcher in 123 years to hit a grand slam for his first career hit! Check out the spanish language announcers call (it doesn’t matter if you speak spanish--it is great).
Just wonderful: Speaking of baseball, you have to watch this short video. A lot of kids dream of a career in the big leagues, but Vincent Stio dreams of being a major league umpire! He dresses up for every game and calls every pitch! He got a special welcome from the umps--they don’t have many fans:)
Community: The divisions got the attention during COVID, but I saw people come together and help out one another. A tremendous collection of those committed to our community are the members of Rotary Club 33. It was my honor to swear in my friend (and San Diego treasure) Phil Blair as their new President! Congrats President Blair!
