Busy week: We got after it this week :) The Board of Supervisors passed a proposal from myself and Supervisor Nora Vargas to create an Office of Immigrant and Refugee Affairs, we moved forward on our ordinance to create a safe, regulated and legal cannabis structure, allocated more than $650 million dollars of ARPA funds and had a budget town hall! Plus a whole lot more!
Deeper dive: Asia: My oldest son is currently deployed with the Marine Corps somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. This plus the national conversation increasingly turning towards our relationship with China has piqued my interest. Foreign Affairs has a good series of articles on the political climate in China, the dangers to Taiwan and the overall state of the US military (after 20 years of war).
Another teenager: And just like that—we have another teenager:) I love this boy and am so proud of the young man he is becoming. Happy Birthday Zach!
Beyond the Blueprint: San Diego County has the highest vaccination rate of any county in California! We have moved into the yellow tier this week, and eagerly await Tuesday when we retire all the tiers! And it looks like California’s more cautious COVID approach paid off--both in saving lives and our economy. According to the UCLA Anderson Forecast, California’s economic growth numbers did better than states with fewer restrictions.
Wonderful Night: Lorena and I had a great time at our first post COVID event, the San Diego Zoo Gala Event. It was great to join their incredible CEO Paul Baribault and some good friends for a wonderful evening. They do incredible conservation and wildlife protection programs! Please consider supporting them!
