All in: The Fight for Democracy: Years ago, I started teaching a class at UC San Diego on the Voting Rights Act. This issue remains as relevant today as it was in 1860 and 1960. If you want a great documentary on this issue, I recommend “All In: The Fight for Democracy” and, if you want a good explainer on the difference between HR1 and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, check out this piece from the Atlantic.
Feel good film of the year: Last weekend, I was looking for a good movie to watch with Lorena and the boys. The Peanut Butter Falcon looked good and was it ever. A sweet and moving story of an odd couple on a fantastically touching journey. Yes, it is rated R. My kids have heard curse words so don’t tweet me:)
Well done, Scott Peters: Change is hard, and anything revolutionary requires it. Take a moment to read this Twitter thread from Congressman Scott Peters. Years ago, he did the hard work to change mindsets and coalitions around traffic and urban design. His hard work and coalition building brought about the roundabouts in La Jolla.
That time of year: I have been so focused on COVID and my work as a Supervisor, that I have not been good about getting ready for my upcoming 2022 re-election. If you think I have done alright, please consider making a donation! Any amount really does help!
Photo of the Week: Caleb (age 9) is taking seriously his morning workouts with me. It is one of my favorite things.
