Behavioral Health: May is Mental Health Month, and we continue to drive change in our behavioral health system. This week, Governor Newsom joined us to announce a historic investment of $12 Billion, that will give us the tools we need to continue helping San Diegans struggling with housing insecurity. This is a big win for behavioral health services and I am proud to champion this issue with such great partners.
Misinformed: I struggle with what is known as the “rationalist delusion.” This is exceptionally frustrating in our current era when some people genuinely believing things there are objectively false. This New York Times column takes an in-depth look at the problem of misinformation and some underlying reasoning. It doesn’t solve anything, but it helps understand a bit better.
Tweet of the week: In San Diego, we have a healthy rivalry with our big friend to the north. Last week, I took one too many questions about San Diego vs. Los Angeles and COVID. My response had a baseball angle that UT sports writer extraordinaire Kevin Acee found entertaining.
Lose like a lineman: I am fortunate to have a great friendship with Nick Hardwick, a former pro-bowl offensive lineman who lost almost 100 pounds after a ten-year NFL career. He has outlined his approach to life and fitness in his “Lose Like A Lineman” training program. Sleep, diet, meditation, active exercise and so much more. I recommend it.
Mother’s Day: Mother’s Day was for the mothers in our lives, but I am the one who is blessed. My Mom gave birth as a teenager to a rambunctious baby and together we survived a lot and became stronger. My amazing, passionate, patient, and loving wife makes our family and home into a beautiful space and me into a better person.
