Take Action: COVID doesn’t get fatigued. And we have to take action to slow the spread in order to avoid catastrophic consequences. In San Diego our increasing cases, hospitalizations, positivity rate and health equity metrics have put us back in a higher tier. You either take action to slow the spread early or you run out of ICU beds. Sadly, we are still fighting old battles with horrible approaches.
Hero of the week: Our boys will tell you that anything a man can do a woman can do better:) The Miami Marlins figured this out this week when they hired Kim Ng as their general manager, making her the first female GM in the history of MLB. As we celebrate her and women like Kamala Harris becoming the next VP of the United States, let’s remind ourselves that being a man is not a fundamental provision to earn a position.
Veterans Day: Please take a moment to watch this KPBS story about Marine Corps veteran and World War II Veterans, Luther Hendricks. He proudly fought for America in a segregated military and faced discrimination after the war, but loves his country and the progress he sees today. We owe him and the greatest generation our eternal thanks and motivation to continue on the path to being a more perfect union. This 95-year-old Marine represents the very best of Veterans Day!
Must Read: Finish whatever book you are reading or get ready to start a new one! The Obama memoirs, first volume of two, comes out on Tuesday! I am very excited. If you want a preview read this excerpt from his book in The New Yorker detailing Obama’s fight to reform healthcare and the battles that came along with it all. It also gives us a deeper dive into what fatherhood is like as President all in thoughtful and eloquent prose.
