Friend,
Here are five things that caught my attention!
Childcare Conference: I was proud to be able to focus our Board’s attention this week on the issue of expanding the availability of quality, affordable childcare in our region. Too many San Diego families don’t have access to childcare options and that has implications for children’s development, our current and future workforce productivity, our economic potential, and community development. I’m glad that we are advancing this exploration of solutions because we need to find ways at the local, state, and federal level to work with employers and nonprofits to make it easier for all parents to find quality care for their children. As a parent, there is nothing more important -- more developments are forthcoming!
Tune in!: Tragically, we have had a year over year increase in deaths from opioid overdoses for more than a decade. The introduction of fentanyl has brought in a heartbreaking surge in this epidemic. For months I have been convening experts, community leaders, families and health care providers to map out a plan to address this problem. ABC 10 News is airing a 30 minute special on our actions Monday night at 7:30pm. Please tune in!

My wife: My wife not only captures but then shares on social media some of our real moments in life:) She was very proud of making Thanksgiving dinner on a random night. When we got married she claimed her only meals were Mexican dishes but she has expanded her skills! It was very good!
Linked In: I don’t spend a lot of time on social media but this person’s educational background really made me laugh:)
Vaccine Politics have real implications: A new study finds that out of almost 600,000 deaths in Ohio and Florida, registered Republicans had far higher death rates than registered Democrats after vaccines were made available. These differences did not exist prior to the pandemic and prior to the vaccine. These are the consequences of the anti-vaccine rhetoric of the Republican Party. When we said COVID and vaccine misinformation was a public health crisis, this is what we meant. There are real life consequences to politicizing public health guidance. Get your booster shots today if you haven’t already.
