Respected San Diego Democratic Party Leaders
Endorse Nathan Fletcher for Supervisor
Democratic Party leaders Jess Durfee, Francine Busby throw early support behind Fletcher
SAN DIEGO –Nathan Fletcher’s bid for County Supervisor gained momentum in the crucial Democratic base with early endorsements from top San Diego Democratic Party leaders, Jess Durfee and Francine Bubsy, his campaign announced today.
Jess Durfee said: “It’s time for Democrats to unite to bring real change to the Board of Supervisors, which, under Republican control, has left too many of our most vulnerable residents to fend for themselves. Nathan Fletcher understands that we need a County Government that fights for stronger protections for the underserved and he has what it takes to get it done.”
Francine Busby added: “From helping pass the Homeowners Bill of Rights during the foreclosure crisis to expanding healthcare protections for laid off Californians during the great recession, Nathan Fletcher doesn’t just talk about progressive values, he delivers real results to make a difference in the lives of working people. As County Supervisor, Nathan Fletcher will fight for economic security for San Diego families struggling to make ends meet and take action to tackle the homeless crisis.”
Jess Durfee and Francine Busby are former Chairs of the San Diego County Democratic Party. Durfee is also a longtime member of the Democratic National Committee. Their support comes just days after Fletcher kicked off his campaign for Supervisor and signals strong, early support from the Democratic Party and progressive community for Fletcher.
Nathan Fletcher said: “I’m humbled and proud to have the support of Jess Durfee and Francine Busby, Democratic champions who have been on the frontlines fighting to build a more progressive San Diego. As County Supervisor, I’ll take on the status quo at the County Board of Supervisors and put County Government to work for all of San Diego by investing in our neighborhoods and strengthening vital services for the sick, elderly and underserved.”
Fletcher announced his campaign for Supervisor earlier this week in a video announcement to supporters. The video can be viewed here . If elected, Fletcher would be the only Democrat on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors.
Nathan Fletcher is a Marine Corps combat veteran, former California State Assemblymember and a Professor of Practice at UCSD. In the State Assembly, Fletcher passed more than 30 laws to expand healthcare coverage, protect homeowners during the foreclosure crisis and strengthen penalties for violent crimes against children. Since leaving the Assembly, Fletcher founded a veterans’ advocacy foundation to help eliminate the stigma surrounding Post-Traumatic Stress and joined the teaching faculty at UCSD. Fletcher lives in City Heights with his wife, Lorena, and their four children.
