San Diego County Firefighters Back Nathan Fletcher For Supervisor
SAN DIEGO – Today, Nathan Fletcher won the backing of San Diego County Firefighters Local 2881 in his campaign for San Diego County Supervisor District 4.
San Diego County Firefighters Local 2881 represents over 500 professional firefighters, paramedics, fire apparatus engineers, foresters, pilots and fire prevention specialists working at CAL FIRE and assigned to the San Diego County Fire Department. San Diego County Firefighters provide essential emergency services responding to wild fires and emergencies throughout the region and providing first response fire protection in incorporated San Diego County.
Randy Scales, Vice President of CAL FIRE Local 2881 District 10 said: “Firefighters trust Nathan Fletcher to keep San Diego neighborhoods safe and secure. In the Assembly, Nathan Fletcher was one of California’s top leaders on public safety passing Chelsea’s Law to protect our kids and expanding fire protection on college campuses. Nathan Fletcher has what it takes to work hand in hand with first responders to protect San Diego as our next County Supervisor.”
The firefighters’ endorsement is among the most influential and highly sought after in the race for County Supervisor and comes on the heels of continued growing support from Fletcher. In recent weeks he earned the support of the San Diego County Democratic Party, San Diego Councilwoman Barbara Bry, Pastor Terrell Fletcher and more.
Nathan Fletcher responded to the Firefighters’ endorsement: “As a Marine combat veteran, I have deep respect for the unflinching bravery and unmatched professionalism San Diego’s firefighters display everyday working to keep our community safe. As County Supervisor, I’ll take on the status quo in County Government, start tackling the urgent needs facing our communities and fight for healthy, safe and secure neighborhoods in every part of San Diego.”
Nathan Fletcher is a Marine Corps combat veteran, former California State Assemblymember and a Professor of Practice at UCSD. In the State Assembly, Fletcher passed more than 30 laws to expand healthcare coverage, protect homeowners during the foreclosure crisis and strengthen penalties for violent crimes against children. Since leaving the Assembly, Fletcher founded a veterans’ advocacy foundation to help eliminate the stigma surrounding Post-Traumatic Stress and joined the teaching faculty at UCSD. Fletcher lives in City Heights with his wife, Lorena, and their four children.
