San Diego School Boardmember Kevin Beiser
Backs Nathan Fletcher For Supervisor
SAN DIEGO – Signifying growing support among local leaders and key progressive Democrats, today Nathan Fletcher earned the endorsement of San Diego Unified School Boardmember and Math Teacher of the Year Kevin Beiser.
School Boardmember Kevin Beiser said: “The kids in our public schools need a County Government that works for them. Nathan Fletcher is the leader we need to make that happen. I am proud to support Nathan Fletcher and look forward to working closely together.”
Beiser’s endorsement adds to the early groundswell of support for Nathan Fletcher’s campaign for County Supervisor. Fletcher has been in the race barely a week and has already amassed impressive support from throughout the San Diego region, the city’s influential labor movement and the vital Democratic base. The endorsements for Fletcher include:
· San Diego Councilman Chris Ward
· San Diego Democratic Party Chairs Jess Durfee, Francine Busby
· SEIU Local 221 (San Diego County Employees)
· Former City Councilmember and Environmental Leader Donna Frye
· San Diego Building and Construction Trades Council*
Nathan Fletcher responded: “I am deeply honored to earn the support of Kevin Beiser, who has dedicated his life to fighting for fairness and opportunity for our children as a School Boardmember and Classroom Teacher. Kevin believes as I do that it’s time to take on the politics as usual at County Government that has ignored our kids’ urgent needs, and take real action to support good public schools in every neighborhood and ensure every child in San Diego can go to college, regardless of how much money their parents make.”
Fletcher announced his campaign for Supervisor last week in a video announcement to supporters. The video can be viewed here . If elected, Fletcher would be the only Democrat on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors.
Nathan Fletcher is a Marine Corps combat veteran, former California State Assemblymember and a Professor of Practice at UCSD. In the State Assembly, Fletcher passed more than 30 laws to expand healthcare coverage, protect homeowners during the foreclosure crisis and strengthen penalties for violent crimes against children. Since leaving the Assembly, Fletcher founded a veterans’ advocacy foundation to help eliminate the stigma surrounding Post-Traumatic Stress and joined the teaching faculty at UCSD. Fletcher lives in City Heights with his wife, Lorena, and their four children.
